Chinese Dark Tea

Post-fermented Hei Cha: Fu Brick, Liu Bao, and other aged dark teas

About Dark Tea (Hei Cha)

Dark Tea (黑茶 Hei Cha) is a category of post-fermented Chinese teas. Unlike pu-erh which is specifically from Yunnan, Hei Cha includes Fu Brick from Hunan, Liu Bao from Guangxi, and Tibetan tea from Sichuan.

Fu Brick Tea (茯砖茶)

From Hunan's Anhua region, Fu Brick is known for "Golden Flowers" (Eurotium cristatum), beneficial fermentation fungus that gives unique floral, mushroom-like notes and digestive benefits.

Liu Bao Tea (六堡茶)

From Guangxi, Liu Bao is aged in bamboo baskets. It develops woody, mineral, and dates-like sweetness. Popular in Southeast Asia and traditionally consumed with dim sum.
